Founder
of
the legendary PsyTribe in Los Angeles in 1997.
In its 12 years of existence, Psytribe has paved the way for many
producers, promoters and DJs which have flourished out of the L.A.
scene. Psytibe has, and continues to set the standards and capture the
essence of a true psychedellic trance party. With over 15 years of
experience, Barakuda has gained the versatility to bring energy to the
dance floor and keep it through out the entire set, no matter what type
of music or time of day. Barakuda has earned the respect of the trance
community worldwide by pioneering a movement on the west coast. Born
in July 18th 1976 in Beverly Hills, California. Raised in L.A until the
age of 14, he then moved to Athens, Greece with his family. finished
high
school and went on to get a computer graphic animation degree at Akto
University in Greece. In 1992 Barakuda discovered the outdoor
psychedelic trance
experience and fell in love with the music and culture. In
1995 he started to D.J. In 1997 he was drafted into the Greek Army so
then he decided make love not war and fled to L.A. Once in L.A. the
trance scene was no place to be found. There came the idea of PsyTribe
since then he has organized hundreds of psy events introduce hundreds
psy artist to the West Coast and has shared the stage with countless
others.
Spyros
aka Spyros Mallas based in
Los
Angeles, is one of the most influential figures in California's
electronic music scene. Following his inspiration to create events
based on the concept of the global trance culture, he co-founded
Psytribe who were responsible for pioneering the standard of quality
psychedelic trance music in California.
His versatile DJ sets ranging from Twilight and Full-On to Progressive
and Techno have landed him to play at premier global electronic music
festivals such as Universo Parallelo in Brazil, Orb Festival in New
York, Burning Man in Nevada, Symbiosis Gathering and Moontribe in
California, and at numerous West Coast events. Currently he is the
founder of Caliphonic Records where he uses his years of musical
knowledge to release the most sought after artists California and the
world have to offer.
Psyclops (aka Swell) has
been around the Psytrance scene since 1995. He was first
introduced to the sound in Japan where he attended his first Goa Trance
party in Nagoya by an Israeli DJ by the name of Motty. The
parties were intimate with no more than 50 people attending, both
Japanese and Foreign. After attending these unforgettable events
over the next 2 years in various outdoor locations around the Nagoya
area, he moved back to America. Once in the States, he moved to
Phoenix,
Arizona. Although other types of music appealed to him, he soon
began obtaining Goa CD’s whenever and wherever he could.
Listening to labels like Flying Rhino and Transient, he began to get
the urge to go to parties again, but there was none of it in
Arizona. He looked to California for the grooves that he so
missed. Hence, he made his way to California and
soon began going to Electric Blue parties. At these parties, he
was first introduced to Andy Barakuda and Spyros Mallas. They
quickly became good friends and Psyclops found himself going to LA
every chance he could get. Eventually, through Barakuda and
Spyros, he began to DJ. With a true mastery of the art DJ Psyclops
takes a diverse variety of materials and produces a cohesive fantastic
voyage. Old and new are blended together into an undulating tapestry of
mental color and sound. Abstraction and intensity are prevalent
throughout his sets creating a sense of drama.
Konflux
is a solo project of the US based DJ and producer Vasily M. Born
and raised in Russia he relocated to the states in 2001. Living in Los
Angeles and frequenting San Francisco he soon gained recognition within
the local psytrance communities. Having
over ten years of experience in producing multifarious styles of
electronic dance music, Vasily began making psy-trance in 2004. A
light-hearted, elegant, yet pounding and groovy style can be roughly
described as "a blend of Light Night and Heavy Morning Psychedelic
Music". Rock, Jazz, [Happy] Hardcore, Drum'n'Bass, Techno and House
have all made significant contributions to his style. Konflux
has spun across the United States alongside a multitude of
international acts, participating in major events like Gaian Mind in
Pennsylvannia, Burning Man in Nevada, Boom Festival Radio in Portugal
and countless California outdoor gatherings. Konflux
has tunes released on UK's Phar Psyde, Italy's Looney Moon and Pixan,
and Israel's Doof Records. More original tracks are on the way for
2009. He also was involved in currently inactive collaboration project
Jetlux with the LA based producer Jeto, with releases on Divine Balance
Records from Chicago and on Mumbai based Sonic Tantra.
Nealika
is the first female DJ in the PsyTribe family! Originally from
Guadalajara Mexico, she moved to LA, then most recently, Oregon. She
has been a regular at psytrance gatherings up and down the West
Coast and has become a
top-notch DJ, adept at multiple styles and genres. She has played at
gathering throughout the US and Mexico alongside some of the top
artists and DJs in the world.
Maha
Richie
has been devoted to psychedelic trance scene for years. Once
with Psytribe crew he became one of the most hard-working audiological
figures in Southern California spreading the light on behalf of
Universal Trance Spirit. Staying true to himself he became glorious for
his exquisite style.
Scenator
(aka Aumi Katz) is a true master of morning spirit conducting. He has
his own refined signature in track selection and story delivery.
Full-on psychedelia is his element of audio motion.
Dai
(aka Harakiri Instructor) comes from the country of the rising sun and
always brings fresh energy to the dancefloor. His psychedelic party
experience started at his teen age in Japan. Soon after his 20th
birthday Dai launched his career as a DJ. When he moved to Southern
California, it was natural for him to join the underground psychedelic
movement and become an active member of Psytribe without which he can
not imagine his DJ career.
The
fresh Psytribe addition DJ/Producer and one of the original members of
Green Sector, Kiva is recognized to be one of the most prolific
psychedelic dj's in LA. He began collecting and playing trance music in
1997 and has an intimate knowledge of the history and spirit of the
sound. His years of experience conjure intuitive mixes combined with
impeccable track selection which produce a powerful experience. Kiva
has shared the stage with almost every trance artist of note since he
began his DJ career in 1999. Playing at outdoor events such as
Earthdance, Symbiosis Gathering, Moontribe, Burning Man Festival, and
numerous indoor shows in the LA area. His future plans include
producing more of his own music and continuing to rock dance floors
across America and beyond.
